3 Crows: Misfortune, Self-reflection, Rebirth variation no. 1
3 Crows: Misfortune, Self-reflection, Rebirth variation no. 1
In this striking, evocative, and symbolic painting, a solitary man is depicted standing knee-deep in a calm, reflective body of water. Despite the heaviness of his soaked attire, there is an air of resignation in his demeanor, suggesting a deeper acceptance of his misfortunate circumstances. Perched upon the man's shoulder, head and also in mid-flight, are three crows, their jet-black feathers contrasting sharply against the muted bright bluish white tones of the background. The symbolism in the painting is open to interpretation: the water could represent purification or rebirth, while the crows might signify transformation, mystery, or even death. The pops of pink represent either a past bright life or a glimpse of a better future.
